No Art can be a process, a performance.

Yes it creates conversation, makes people think with there simplicity.

No art can be disposable, the idea of the artwork itself can be precious.

Yes, anyone can make art, art is no longer confined.

What do you think of Gilbert and George living sculptures? Are they Art for the people?

No, most definitely not, its elitist and upper class.

Is there anything you wouldn’t use in your work/ anything off limits?

i.e. Robert Mapplethorpe ? (Pornography or art?) Louise Bourgeois? Anger, Joseph Boyce  near death experience/politics

Child pornography would not be in my eyes considered art.

Do you think Art can heal? (Like Boyce).

Most definitely, art is therapy.

Which Artist/Art movement did you identify with the most? And Why?

Joanne Reigo, her work was very personal, it could be interpreted in many ways and had hidden meanings and a story

Yes everything can have beauty, its in the eye of the beholder, its personal.

Has todays art lost its beauty? Is beauty important in Art?

No todays art still has beauty, beauty is important in art, it is a means of escape.

Have you ever thought that you’re a history maker?  That the Art you leave behind will be partly how people of the future will judge the world we live in now.  How does this thought make you think about what you do what you want to leave as your legacy?

I would like to think my art would be past in for future generations.

Both

Art, its the creative, its the production of something else. It does not matter

Week 3

What is taste?

Taste draws from your background, socioeconomic, and class.

What is culture?

Culture is how we collectively view art, music, artists, etc.

Can doing up a car be art?

Yes, its the passion, love and devotion used to create that matters

Why do you think people are more likely to spend £1000 pounds on a  tattoos then a painting or a sculpture?

In working class people are used to physical belonging being removed, bailiffs, having to sell expensive items, having an expensive tattoo is not something people can take.

Should art be accessible?

Absolutely

What do you think of Grayson Perry’s methodology?

Loved it

Does class effect the sort of art you make?

Yes

Do you like Kitsch art?

Personally no, but I can see the appeal, it holds memories, reflects life

Do you see your own work in a historical context?

To a certain extent, I like the idea of my work being passed down through generations of families and the story being told of how the acquired it and who they thought i was an artist.

Review

This made me cry, the way Grayson immersed himself in the Sunderland culture, he totally understood and embraced it. Its sad there is no working class artworld. Working class dont often get to see themselves in art without it being stereotyped. I was genuinely concerned for graysons safety on his night out but the people of Sunderland embraced him for himself and accepted him. I really loved the way people just were themselves.

Hollow Laughter so this is modern art Matthew Collings

 Week 4

Can anything be Art?

Yes

Did you know about Duchamp’s Readymades ? How shocking they were in 1913?

What do you think about them?  Are the still challenging ? Are they still relevant today?

I can see why they would be shocking, in 1913, its a slap in the face of galleries and exhibits that anything can and will be art and the artists taking back the control. I dont think they are still challenging, but they are relevant

How important is skill and craft in Art?

It is to a certain degree, depending on practice, but the concept is the art.

Should Art  make us think? Why?

Yes, it should fire the imagination, it should ask questions.

Is it possible to make Art that is both thought provoking and  is also  beautifully and skilfully made?

Yes

What do you think about writing Jokes and selling them as Art?

its an art form but not necessarily 'art' as the word perceives.

What do you think about Martin Kippenberger work? . Do you understand what he’s saying through his work?

Its not memorable and i dont get it.

What do you this  Piero Manzoni was  doing when he canned  his own excrement and sold it?

How can excrement be art? Is Manzoni making an intellectual point ? or laughing all the way to the bank, as he fools the Art establishment?

Its a dig at those who would buy anything in the name of art.

Have you ever considered making a deliberately provocative piece of work?

Yes

Did the Fluxus’ have a point, we take ourselves too seriously as Artists?

Sometimes
